Yanis

We spied her amongst the row,
Full-clothed with a flower in her hair,
Waving a golden diadem of intricate design,
Humming a tune in the midst of wild company

I nudged my friend-
But he said not a word,
The wind took handfuls of his hair,
Dreams stood tall upon his mind;
So he stared.

No greater beauty my eyes have seen,
Not even amongst the lands of kings and queens,
And to sing in tune as lovely as this,
Is truly a spectacular gift.

She took her cue from the tranquil day,
Cast off her clothes and straight-away
Withdrew herself to a flowing stream,
And all the while still continued to sing.

I felt a tinge of fear and soon regret,
And I wiped away a red droplet-
That ran from my chest in flowing form,
Out of the wound from a blade still warm
