CARE AND HANDLING

DVD Care and Handling

DVD's are very durable, however, you should take some basic precautions and exercise some care and handling to help maintain the integrity of the DVD.

Here is a list of handy tips to follow to make sure the DVD has a long life:

  • Always store the DVD in its protective case when not in use.
  • Only handle the DVD by its outer edge or center hole to prevent fingerprints. Any dirt, fingerprints, or scratches can prevent the correct reading of information.
  • When removing a DVD from its case, press the button on the center hub and push downward. Using your other hand, gently remove the disc by its outer edge. Never remove a DVD from its package simply by prying up the outer edge of the disc.

  • Do not leave the DVD in direct sunlight.
  • Do not attach paper or tape to disc.
  • Make certain the DVD is seated properly in the DVD player's tray before closing the tray door.
Cleaning

  • To clean the disc, make sure to use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean both sides of the DVD. Wipe in a straight line from the center of the disc to the outer edge.
Never wipe the DVD in a circular motion.

  • For stubborn dirt, soak the cloth in a weak detergent solution, wring well and wipe. Use a dry cloth to dry.
  • Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner benzene, commercially available cleaners or antistatic spray used for vinyl LPs. It may damage the disc.
